TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, introduced Abu Fadak al-Muhammadawi as its new deputy commander.

Iraq’s PMU Names Martyr Muhandis’ Successor

He was chosen as the successor to Martyr Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a meeting of the PMU officials on Thursday, according to al-Sumaria news website.

According to al-Mayadeen TV, Al-Muhammadawi is among the experienced field commanders and former secretary-general of Iraq’s Hezbollah who has played a major role in defeating the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group.

Al-Muhandis, Iranian top commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The Pentagon said in a statement that US President Donald Trump had ordered the US military to assassinate the top Iranian commander.
